  • If You cannot use the Insured Vehicle because of an Event which happens within 7 days of when You were due to start Your trip and We reasonably believe that the Insured Vehicle cannot be repaired before You leave; or
  • the Insured Vehicle is stolen and not recovered before You leave.

We will pay up to the amount shown in the Benefits Schedule towards the cost of hiring another vehicle for the purpose of carrying out the planned trip,including any costs for delivery, insurance, and any other compulsory charges which the hire car provider may make.

We will arrange and pay for:
  • labour and call-out charges involved in providing roadside assistance after an Event, if there is a reasonable chance that the roadside assistance will make the Insured Vehicle fit to drive; or
  • the Insured Vehicle to be taken to the nearest local repairer or safe storage place after an Event.

We will arrange and pay for:
  • up to the amount shown in the Benefits Schedule towards the cost of emergency labour (but excluding the cost of parts) incurred outside the United Kingdom which will allow You to continue the journey in the Insured Vehicle without the need to call on any other of the services offered by this policy.

  • If You cannot use the Insured Vehicle because of an Event and We reasonably believe that the Insured Vehicle will be out of use for more than eight hours;or
  • the Insured Vehicle is stolen and not recovered within eight hours.

We will, at Our option, pay for the reasonable costs of one of the following :

  • Taking You, Your Party and Your luggage, by any suitable means, to Your destination, and then returning You to the Insured Vehicle after it has been repaired;
  • Accommodation, including one daily meal (but not alcoholic drinks), for You and Your Party while the Insured Vehicle is being repaired. These expenses are limited to £45 a day for each person and to £450 in total for each person;
  • Up to the amount shown in the Benefits Schedule towards the cost of hiring another vehicle, including any costs for delivery or collection and drop-off fees, insurance, and other compulsory charges which the hire car provider may make.

If You cannot use the Insured Vehicle because of an Event and it cannot be repaired locally or the repairs, if carried out locally, cannot be completed within a time that would enable You to make Your planned return to the UK (as indicated by such as a ferry booking); or the Insured Vehicle is stolen outside the United Kingdom, and not recovered until after You have returned to the United Kingdom; or the only person qualified to drive becomes unfit to drive the Insured Vehicle due to accidental bodily injury or sudden and unforeseen illness;

We will, at Our option, pay for the reasonable costs of the following :

  • Taking You, Your passengers and Your luggage, by any suitable means, to Your home in the United Kingdom.
  • Taking the Insured Vehicle to Your home or to a repairer of Your choice in the United Kingdom.

If there is an accidental injury, sudden and unforeseen illness or death which means that there is no-one who can drive the Insured Vehicle, We will, at Our option, pay for a qualified person to drive the Insured Vehicle, You and Your Party back to Your home in the United Kingdom.

We will also pay for Your accommodation costs, including one daily meal (but not alcoholic drinks), on Your return journey, if these costs would not have been necessary if the journey or holiday had gone ahead as planned. These expenses are limited to £45 a day for each person and to £450 in total for each person.

If spare parts are not available locally to repair the Insured Vehicle following an Event, We will arrange to have them delivered to You, Your Party or an agreed location as quickly as is reasonably possible.

We will pay up to the amount shown in the Benefits Schedule in respect of legal costs and expenses

  1. to defend the driver of the Insured Vehicle against criminal charges following a Road Traffic Accident involving the Insured Vehicle.
  2. to pursue uninsured losses against third parties arising from a Road Traffic Accident involving the Insured Vehicle

We will advance to the Driver, once We have received a signed acknowledgement of debt, a maximum of the amount shown in the Benefits Schedule for the driver to enable the Driver:

  1. to provide Bail or other security to any judicial authority to secure his or her release and that of the Insured Vehicle following detention after a road traffic accident or motoring offence.
  2. to pay in respect of customs duty to a foreign government if he or she commits an involuntary breach or non-observance of the conditions under which the Insured Vehicle may be imported for a limited time into the country without payment of customs duty. This includes payment of customs duty arising out of the abandonment of the Insured Vehicle after accident or theft.

If any person other than Your Party damages the Insured Vehicle in the course of a theft or attempted theft of or from the Insured Vehicle We will pay up to the amount shown in the Benefits Schedule towards the cost of repairing the damage. Typically this will include damage to windows and door locks damaged in the course of a theft or attempted theft of or from the Insured Vehicle.

Cover is available for standard caravan or trailer which meets with the relevant rules and regulations and is towed by the Insured Vehicle. The weight of the caravan or trailer when loaded must not be more than the kerb weight of the Insured Vehicle.

Please note that cover for caravans and trailers is limited to Section 2 and Section 5 of the Benefits Schedule.

Q.       In what countries am I covered?
A. You are covered throughout mainland Europe excluding the United Kingdom other than during the direct journeys between Your home and Your international departure point.

Mainland Europe is defined as Andorra, Austria, Balearics, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Isles, Corsica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Sardinia, Sicily, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey in Europe plus Uskudar, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
   
Q.       What type of vehicles do you cover?
A. We provide cover for the following vehicle types: car, light van, motorised caravan, estate car, or motorcycle. The insured vehicle must be privately registered in the United Kingdom and under 10 years old since first registration (or under 15 years old if you have paid the appropriate extra premium). Important Note: The insured vehicle must be serviced, maintained and operated as recommended by the manufacturer and hold a current valid MOT certificate if applicable.
   
Q.       Are there any weight and size limits for my vehicle?
A. The insured vehicle must not exceed (including any load carried) the following gross vehicle weight and dimensions: 3,500kg in weight, 8m in length, 3m in height and 2.25m in width.
   
Q.       Can I change my vehicle after I have purchased the policy?
A. Yes, you are permitted to change the insured vehicle without incurring any additional charge. Simply contact us before you travel and we will update your policy.
   
Q.       How many days am I covered for under the Annual multi-trip policy?
A. Our annual multi-trip policy runs for 12 months from the commencement date and provides cover for any number of round trips provided that each trip does not exceed 31 days in duration and that your vehicle returns to the UK at the end of each trip.
   
Q.       I am going on a single trip, how many days can you provide cover for?
A. The maximum number of days we can cover for a single trip is 91 days.
   
Q.       What age of vehicle do you cover?
A. Single trip policies can be arranged for vehicles that are under 10 years old since first registration or under 15 years if the appropriate extra premium has been paid. Annual multi-trip policies can be arranged for vehicles that are under 10 years old since first registration.
   
Q.       Am I covered before my I depart?
A. Yes, you are covered if the insured vehicle is stolen and not recovered before you leave, or if an event occurs which means you cannot use the insured vehicle up to 7 days before you are due to travel. Please note: Should you purchase cover within 7 days of your scheduled date of departure, you are not covered for any claim resulting from breakdown, or if the actual or imminent breakdown is discovered during the course of a service carried out within 7 days of your scheduled date of departure.
   
Q.       How far in advance can I purchase European Breakdown Cover?
A. You can purchase a policy for commencement up to 12 months from today's date.
   
Q.       Am I able to purchase a European Breakdown Cover policy if I am not a UK resident?
A. No, only UK residents (and residents of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) are eligible to purchase one of our policies.
   
Q.       Are there any administrative fees or charges if I take out a policy?
A. No, if you take out a European Breakdown Cover policy, we do not charge any administrative fees.
   
Q.       Will you cover the cost of obtaining spare parts if none are available locally?
A. Yes, if we are unable to obtain spare parts locally, we will arrange to have them delivered to you, subject to availability and import restrictions. Please note you are responsible for the cost of the spare parts and customs duty payable.
   
Q.       Will you help me pursue uninsured losses against third parties arising from a road traffic accident?
A. Yes, we will provide assistance for legal costs and expenses in recovering uninsured losses up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule.
   
Q.       What should I do immediately after I have an accident?
A. You should contact the Green Flag number control centre using the emergency number you will be supplied.
   
Q.       What should I not do immediately after I have an accident?
A. You should not contact any garage or recovery operator directly.
   
Q.       The policy wording states that I must carry a serviceable spare wheel. However my car is equipped by the manufacturer with run-flat tyres/tyre puncture sealant kit. Am I still covered?
A. Yes, you are covered, as long as the alternatives to a spare wheel are as specified by the manufacturer.
   
Q.       Do you cover hire cars?
A. Yes we will cover vehicles that have been hired, as long as you have the hirer’s permission and the vehicle meets the definition of Insured Vehicle in the policy wording.
   
Q.       If I purchase a policy, am I insured personally or do you insure the vehicle?
A. Our policy covers the vehicle and cover will be extended to any member of your party provided they have your permission and the appropriate license and insurance to drive the insured vehicle. If the vehicle has been hired they must also meet the requirements and conditions of the hirer.
   
Q.       I drive a company owned car and want to take this on holiday to Europe, would your policy cover this?
A. Yes, our policy will cover company vehicles that are taken abroad for personal use. The company vehicle must be registered in the UK and you must have the necessary permission and insurance to drive the vehicle abroad. The insured vehicle must also meet the definitions of the insured vehicle in the policy wording. Please note we do not cover commercial vehicles that are being used for business purposes whilst traveling overseas.
   
Q.       I'm already overseas and would like to take out cover, is this possible?
A. No, unfortunately we can only cover trips that originate from the UK and return to the UK during the period of cover.
   
Q.       If I need to make a claim, is there a policy excess to pay?
A. No, there are no excess amounts to pay should you need to make a claim on one of our policies.
   
Q.       Do you cover One Way Trips
A. No, your journey must start and end in the UK for cover to apply.

Your Right to Cancel

We hope you are happy with the cover our insurance provides. After purchasing our insurance, should you decide that the insurance no longer meets with your requirements, you have the right to cancel (as if the cover you purchased had never existed) by returning the certificate to us within 14 days of issue and we will refund your premium in total. This right of cancellation does not apply if your policy is a short term insurance of less than one month’s duration, your trip has commenced or if you intend to make a claim under the policy.
